Of
all the International tragedies I have witnessed in my 55
years of existence, I think the assassination of Martin
Luther King Jr. affected me the most. Although I was only a
teenager at the time, I was devastated. His "I Have A
Dream" speech inspires me to this day.
I was watching "The Hour" on CBC with George
Stroumboulopoulos in November of 2008 and one of his guests was
the Mayor of Atlanta Georgia, Andrew Young (also a member of
the Martin Luther King crew). George asked him his take on
the presidential election results. Mr Young answered:
"the people have spoken; they chose grace over greed,
faith over fear and vision over violence". I
immediately wrote those words down. A week or so later, I
decided to write a song featuring those words of
inspiration. Entertaining and performing has been a part of
my life since the age of three. I have written and recorded
many songs in my life, but this is the one I am most proud
of. I hope you like it.
MUCH TOO LATE!
This
is a genuine blues album in the strictest sense of the word.
The band recorded nineteen tracks on October 7th and 8th,
1996 at The Studio at Puck's Farm, fourteen of which appear
on this album.
These
are all first takes and feature only original vocals and
instrument solos recorded together and "live off the
floor" - there are no overdubs or sweetening of any
kind on these tracks.
This
is truly the raw sound of the Danny B. Blues Band and
as a result, the spontaneity and passion reflected in each
man's performance is a lasting tribute to the true meaning
of Blues and it's origins.
It
should be noted that this could not have been achieved
without the great ears and technical wizardry of Phil
Sheridan whose engineering and mixing talents made possible
the pureness of sound we were so strongly pursuing.
Bravo Video: When You Live With The Lame You Learn To Limp, written by Danny B and Doug Riley.
YOU CAN'T MAKE PEACE
This
album was recorded in just two days in May 2007 at Doug
(Doc) and Jan Riley's beautifully restored and renovated century
farmhouse in Durell Point in eastern Prince Edward Island.
I felt
an immediate sense of camaraderie amongst the three
performers, whose friendship has spanned a few decades. From
the first run-through, the mutual respect and joy of playing
together was evident to me, and this became even more
apparent as the session went on.
Most
tracks were recorded "off the floor" with very few
edits and overdubs.
Back in the studio, after loading the tracks into my
PARIS digital system for editing and mixing, I found that in spite
of the eclectic mix of styles and songs, the album has an
overall unity to it.
I'm sure that it is because of the level of comfort and
trust among all involved. It truly was a privilege and a
pleasure to be part of this project.
